Philadelphia Democratic mayor responds to ridicule for misspelling Eagles in speech

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker sparked widespread ridicule after misspelling the name of her hometown Eagles during a speech on Sunday.
In a chant celebrating the team’s playoff berth, the Democratic mayor attempted to sing the fan base’s signature chant, spelling out the team’s name. However, she spells it “ELGSES”.

Parker corrected that mistake during a press conference on Tuesday.
“We don’t promise perfection, and I’m glad I never did,” Parker told reporters. “Especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles correctly.”

Philadelphia-based independent sportswear company Philly Goat has turned the Democratic misspelling into a T-shirt.

Parker first served as the city’s mayor after winning the mayoral election in 2023, defeating her opponent and becoming the first female mayor in the city’s history. Republican Joe Rocky.
Parker served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2005-15 and as a Philadelphia City Councilman from 2015-22.
The Eagles will play the rival Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday in Philadelphia for the right to advance to the Super Bowl.
