Trump voters’ trust in electoral process surges, sharp reversal from post-2020 feelings

Donald Trump Voters, and the broader electorate, have shown overwhelming confidence in the 2024 electoral process, in stark contrast to the skepticism that characterized the 2020 presidential campaign.
A Pew Research Center poll showed that 88% of voters said the 2024 election was well-run, compared with just 59% in 2020, indicating a clear shift in perceptions, especially in the Among Trump supporters.
After Trump’s victory, 93% of Trump voters thought the election was “well-run,” a significant increase from just 21% who felt the same four years ago. This change in attitude highlights how the election results reshaped their views on the integrity of the election.
This newfound confidence is not limited to the overall view of election administration, but also extends to specific aspects of the voting process, including the accuracy of vote counting.
Trump voters who were once highly skeptical now show great confidence in both in-person and mail-in vote counting.

A Pew Research survey found that 94% of Trump voters now believe that in-person votes were counted correctly, a 30-point increase from 2020. Trump voters’ confidence in absentee ballots has also risen significantly, from 19% in 2020 to 72% in 2024.
While Biden voters remain confident in the accuracy of both voting methods, with 95% expressing trust in the 2020 absentee ballot count, Harris voters are slightly less confident in the 2024 election. However, 84% of Harris voters still think the election went well, a strong showing that reflects broader approval of the electoral process.
The dramatic shift in Trump voters’ views marks a sharp departure from the contentious atmosphere surrounding the 2020 election and shows how the outcome can dramatically alter perceptions of its fairness and execution.
To conduct this analysis, Pew Research Center surveyed 9,609 U.S. adults, including 8,072 U.S. citizens who said they voted in the November election. The survey was conducted from November 12 to 17, 2024.
