Trump’s early executive order recognizes only gender, ends DEI program

Incoming President Trump plans to target federal diversity and support transgender initiatives in his early executive orders, officials said Monday.
The purpose of the latter order is to “protect women from gender, ideology, extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government,” officials told reporters by phone.
The order would clarify that U.S. government policy recognizes only two genders, male and female. These will be classified based on reproductive function rather than chromosomes, officials said.
The word “sex” for federal employees will be changed to “sex.”

The Trump official also said the Biden administration’s decision to offer an “X” gender passport option would be reversed, telling reporters that “the Secretary of State, Department of Homeland Security and all other agencies will ensure that official government documents, including passports and visas, accurately reflect gender”.
Other aspects of the order include ensuring taxpayer funds are not used for gender transition surgeries and rescinding Biden administration guidance on the use of preferred pronouns in schools.
Another order mentioned would roll back the federal government’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) measures.

It aims to end taxpayer funding of diversity initiatives, with Trump officials citing the USDA’s environmental justice program, Treasury Department diversity training and the Federal Aviation Administration’s diversity hiring efforts as examples.
The order will direct the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management to coordinate with agencies to terminate all similar programs.
Trump has pledged to sign more than 200 executive orders in his first 24 hours as president, many targeting culture war issues and border security, two cornerstones of his White House bid.

Trump’s aides have briefed members of Congress and members of the media on the contents of many of the orders, a sign he doesn’t want to waste time after being sworn in.
At a separate news conference on Monday, Trump officials said he would sign executive actions to end birthright citizenship and rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of the United States.”
