Texas pizzeria honors highest bidder after petty theft reveals second crime

An unfortunate petty theft at a Texas pizzeria has stumbled upon another victim after his humorous social media post went viral.

After money was stolen from the tip jar at the Stone Oven Pizza store in Wichita Falls, a report was made on Facebook and an auction was offered to recoup employees’ lost money.

The accused teen left behind a cowboy hat, so the restaurant owner decided it was only fitting to use the lost hat and recoup the proceeds.

“Last night our staff encountered an incident where some teenagers stole tips from the tip jar…but, luckily, they kept the hat…We’re not too fond of the hats here, but… We know the beautiful Hat Wichita Falls community is and we wanted to host an auction…the highest bidder on Tuesday afternoon will win the prize of this authentic cowboy jicama!

The company said all proceeds from the auction will be split equally between three employees who lost their tips.

What the pizzeria didn’t expect was that the good-faith attempt would eventually lead to the hat’s true owner being discovered, and the owner was not one of the teenagers.

An update to the original post shows the teens broke into a man’s truck and stole his hat.

The teen responsible left behind a cowboy hat, and the restaurant owner decided it was only fitting to use the lost hat and recoup the proceeds.

The restaurant went on to boast that they were proud of their town and the support they received following the theft.
