First on Fox: A border state legislator is working to ensure that the Border Patrol agents are paid in the case of government shutdowns – just as the close deadline for Washington, D.C. is imminent
Rep. Monica de la Cruz of R-Texas is reintroducing our Border Patrol and Customs Agents Act, which will ensure that the salary of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees is paid in the event of any government closure in fiscal 2025.
Specifically, it will cover any Border Patrol salary and expenses and the Field Operations Office, which staff enter the country.

“Border Patrol agents have gone beyond to ensure that our communities are protected and that our borders are safe,” de la Cruz said in a statement.
“Under President Trump, Border Patrol agents can fully perform their duties, so there are very few illegal transits reported in history. We cannot let politics endanger their hard-earned salary,” she said. The bill has 16 co-sponsors, including state legislators from along the border.
The bill was reintroduced due to concerns about the possibility of a government closure in the coming weeks. Since October, Congressional negotiators have funded twice through ongoing resolutions.

“With the upcoming funding deadline, bipartisan payments to our Border Patrol and Customs Agents will ensure that agents and officials continue to be paid during any potential government funding failures,” De La Cruz said.

The bill’s reintroduction comes after a sharp drop in border crossings since President Trump and Vice President JD Vance took office, who visited the Texas border and praised the work Border Patrol agents are doing.
