A Brentwood, New York, man was arrested after allegedly speeding on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) while under the influence of drugs and causing a crash that seriously injured a police officer, according to police.
Court records show that 29-year-old Cody Fisher faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, second-degree assault, second-degree unlawful operation of a motor vehicle to flee and reckless driving.
Suffolk County police said Highway Patrol Trooper Brendon Gallagher was conducting a traffic stop on the westbound side of the LIE around 6 p.m. Sunday when a 2021 Ford Mustang drove by at a high rate of speed.
Gallagher, a member of the Street Takeover Task Force, responded to the speeding vehicle and activated his lights and sirens before attempting to pull over the driver of the Mustang.
