How a groom’s drunk mistake triggers a full-blown fight and ruins his wedding
After the drunk groom chose the wrong woman three times, a frustrated bride rushed down and canceled her wedding.
The event in Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, North India, fell into chaos after the groom mistakenly placed the ritual garland around the bride’s best friend, before going to a male friend and then an older guest.
Then there was a slap, the quarrel, the marriage suddenly ended, and the groom was eventually arrested, The Indian era Report.
Ravindra Kumar, 26, arrived at his wedding on Saturday night in the village of Naughwa Bhagwantpur in the Barreli district. He reportedly drank with his friends before the ceremony.
He was originally scheduled to attend the garland ceremony, a tradition of Hindu weddings, and the couple exchanged a circle of flowers, symbolizing their commitment to each other.
But Mr. Kumar mistakenly placed the wreath around the bride’s best friend instead of her. Kumar realized his mistake and removed it, just putting it on a male friend and then an older guest, shocking the attendees to silence.
The bride, 21-year-old bride Radha Devi, got angry, slapped Mr. Kumar, walked down and canceled the wedding. This triggered a fight between the two families, with chairs thrown before police intervening.
The bride’s family then filed a police complaint accusing Kumar’s family of having applied for a dowry, although it had already cost Rs 4.5 lakh (£4,000).
Ms. Devi’s brother, Omkar Verma, said the groom’s family could have planned a drama to humiliate them. He also claimed that Mr. Kumar misrepresented his career, claiming to be a farmer when he was a truck driver.
By 4 a.m., Mr. Kumar and his friends were detained in police custody. A medical test confirmed that he was intoxicated and registered him under India’s strict anti-donation laws. A person was also arrested for suspected supply of illegal alcohol.
“The groom was intoxicated and performed poorly. His physical examination confirmed that he was drunk,” said Harsh Modi, a local police officer who oversees the case.
Although his family asked for a save of the marriage, Ms. Devi refused to reconsider it.
