Greenland PM seeks independence after Trump comments on takeover

Greenland’s Prime Minister Mutt Egged recently announced his intentions for the island’s future and said major steps towards independence from Denmark were “necessary”.
Egged’s comments follow President-elect Donald Trump’s Dec. 22 post on Truth Social advocating for “ownership and control” of Greenland, focusing on the basis for secession from Denmark.
“The upcoming new electoral period must work with citizens to develop these new steps, building on the foundations that have been established,” Egged said. “Now is the time for us to take a step ourselves and shape our future, including who we will fight with Close cooperation and who our trading partners are.”
