Secretary HUD creates Doge task force

Scott Turner, secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), announced a new government efficiency department task force on Thursday to “eliminate waste, fraud and abuse of its federal agencies.”

Doge revealed that as of Friday, $1.9 billion in HUD funds had been recovered, saying the funds were misplaced during the Biden administration and were “designated for management of financial services but no longer needed.”

Doge said it worked with Turner to release funds, and now the U.S. Treasury Department can use them.

Turner said HUD set up its own Doge task force to review how the agency spends taxpayers’ money. HUD staff will lead the task force to maximize budget and efficiency and report their findings directly to Turner.

“HUD will be detailed and intentional in every dollar that serves rural, tribal and urban communities. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we are no longer in a habitual business position, and the Governor’s Task Force will be helping to identify and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse, and ultimately better serve the American people,” Turner said.

Turner said he set up a task force to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order “maximize government efficiency and productivity.”

The HUD Doge task force will be committed to “ensure that all programs, processes and personnel are working together to promote the purpose of the department”.

HUD is responsible for national housing policy and urban development, and its programs include affordable housing programs, community development, homeowner support, fair housing and anti-discrimination enforcement, homeless services, and affordable housing programs.

Turner said in the process of an announcement on Thursday that the Governor’s Task Force has identified more than $260 million in savings.

“We have confirmed $260 million In the savings, we have more to accomplish. ” Turner said.

As Elon Musk and Doge comb their own ways in the federal bureaucracy, some agencies are conducting their own investigations to meet halfway through the road.

Lee Zeldin, the Environmental Protection Agency, announced Thursday that he canceled a $50 million environmental justice grant.

“I canceled a $50 million grant to a group called the Climate Justice Alliance. They say climate justice is done through free Palestine. I don’t think American taxpayers want $50 million to go to this one. Left-wing advocacy group. It has been cancelled.,” Selding said.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is also working with Doge to cut wasteful spending on the Department of Defense.

“We will work with them. We should have worked with them long ago. The Department of Defense has a big budget, but it needs to be held accountable.”
