Video released by the FBI shows suspects planting pipe bomb devices outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee offices in Washington, D.C., in January 2021

The FBI on Thursday released a new video purportedly showing a suspect planting pipe bombs outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee offices in Washington, D.C., on January 5, 2021

In addition to the footage, the FBI revealed that the suspect is believed to be approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall in an attempt to solicit new tips from the public ahead of the fourth anniversary of the crime.

The FBI noted that a $500,000 reward remains available for information leading to an arrest.

The attempted attack occurred on the eve of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, but there is no clear link between the two events.

“It’s hard to determine a suspect’s motive when you can’t identify him,” David Sandberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office, told The Associated Press. “So it’s hard for us to say. There is some connection, although we can’t say there isn’t any connection.”

Investigators are not even sure if the suspect is male or female.

The suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, a face mask, black gloves and Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes, the FBI said, adding that fewer than 25,000 pairs of the shoes were sold between August 2018 and the attack.

“Looking at the clothing, those are probably the most noticeable or unique features of the clothing that the suspect was wearing,” Sandberg said. “We’re hoping someone will recognize that.”

Over the past four years, the FBI has evaluated more than 600 tips, reviewed approximately 39,000 video files, and conducted more than 1,000 interviews.

The suspect then planted a second bomb in an alley behind the Republican National Committee building at around 8:16 p.m., and was last seen on surveillance cameras two minutes later carrying a backpack as he walked past A row of houses in Washington, D.C., where investigators believe the backpack was used to transport bombs.

“We continue to believe someone has important information that they may not have realized until now,” the FBI video’s narrator says. “We ask that you come forward and share this information with the FBI.”

No one was injured in the attempted attack and the bomb was secured, but the FBI said it could have been fatal.
