Saquon Barkley, Pat Surtain II, named “Offensive”, Defensive Player of the Year
After bringing the team to the playoffs, Saquon Barkley and Pat Surtain II were named the best players in offense and defensive ball respectively.
In the offseason, after the New York Giants rival chose to let go, the defender signed a three-year contract with the Hawks, which was the Big Blue’s nightmare and the bird’s dream.
Barkley became the ninth man to rush for 2,000 yards in his ninth season and could have a record if he didn’t sit down in Week 18.

Although this is a regular season award, Barkley is 30 yards away from setting a season (including the playoffs). In 19 games this season, including the playoffs, Barkley rushed for 2,447 yards and 18 touchdowns, five of which appeared in his last two games.
In his 19 games, he rushed over 100 times and eclipsed twice.
This was the first time since 2005 and 2006 that he won the award in the back-to-back season after running, when Shaun Alexander and Ladanian Tomlinson won the hardware respectively.
Surtain became the first defensive back to win the award since Stephon Gilmore in 2019, after locking in top receivers throughout the season. Surtain took four passes and returned them to the NFL high of 132 yards. He has had his third straight Pro Bowl and was named the first team for the second time in three seasons.

The quarterbacks collectively won 59.1 passers when throwing at Surtain, the lowest third in football, behind Derek Stingley Jr. and Marlon Humphrey.
Surtain is the 12th cornerback to win the award.
