Robber impersonates police in Koreatown attack, robbery, LAPD says

Three men wearing “police-style” uniforms and apparently posing as law enforcement officers robbed a Koreatown apartment early Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The men, along with a fourth accomplice, took an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry from a home in the 3100 block of Wilshire Boulevard and carried out the attack around 2:40 a.m., police said.

Three of the thieves were wearing black ski masks and “all-black police style uniforms,” and the fourth was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Derek Madison said. Madison said at least one person was armed with a black semiautomatic handgun.

Madison said the thieves took “a large amount” of cash and jewelry and fled the scene after the attack and robbery.

When police and paramedics arrived, the assault victim refused to take an ambulance to the hospital, Madison said.

This incident is not the first in recent history of perpetrators wearing clothing similar to that of law enforcement officers while committing crimes. In June, police said two men impersonated U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including using fake badges, to enter an Anaheim home and then rob Latino residents.
