Rivian adds first electric vehicle charging station in Joshua Tree, targeting ‘special location’ network – Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN)

Rivian Motors Rivigne A charging network is being built with charging stations strategically located to encourage adventurers to drive electric vehicles, with its first next-generation charging station located in the California desert.

What to know: Rivian’s Joshua Tree charging station opened to the public in early December and supports the use of adapters to charge all electric vehicles, including Teslas.

Outpost offers amenities that allow drivers to charge their electric vehicles while they charge, including a children’s play area with a climbing wall, hammocks and cabanas. Free coffee, snacks for purchase and handcrafted local furniture are available in the room.

Rivian offsets electricity use at its charging stations by purchasing renewable energy and focuses on revitalization, reuse and conservation in its site development.

“We don’t want to completely build something,” Dennis CherryRivian’s vice president of marketing told Newsweek .

“The most sustainable buildings are buildings that already exist. It’s very important to us to create something that we can adaptively reuse,” she said.

Cherry told Newsweek she toured more than 20 potential sites over two years before choosing the Joshua Tree Outpost location because its features and potential appealed to adventurous current and potential Rivian owners.

“You want them to feel like really beautiful, special places and find buildings that have history and character and a story behind them,” she said.

Rivian purposely chose a remote location 0.9 miles from the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center and plans to offer another unique service to drivers at Outpost.

Starting in the first quarter of 2025, prospective and current Rivian customers will be able to sign up for off-road experiences using Rivian-owned vehicles at the Joshua Tree location.

“One of the reasons we’re so excited about this car is because all the test drives you do in the city are incredible, but they don’t show off the full capabilities of the vehicle just because they’re on paved roads,” Che said. Li said.
