Possible tornadoes, hail in north Florida morning squall line
A squall line of severe weather is expected to move through the area early Sunday morning and could bring damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes and even possible hail.
Earlier in the day, the Tallahassee area upgraded the severe weather risk to a Level 2 out of 5, or minor, risk after 7 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters say keep your phone charged overnight to receive weather warnings when tornado warnings are issued.
The storm has proven deadly as it sweeps through Texas.
An outbreak of tornadoes threatened parts of the South on Saturday, prompting forecasters to issue a rare “particularly hazardous conditions” warning as the storm killed at least one person and damaged homes and fire stations, according to preliminary reports.
Dan Davis is the mayor of Manville, Texas, located in Brazoria County. On Saturday, Davis posted about a death in the county on Facebook and confirmed the death to USA TODAY via email, saying it happened at CR 191 and Highway 35 in Brazoria County Near the highway area.
Davis also said four people were injured and the home was “completely destroyed and numerous other properties were damaged.” He also added that he is in contact with other Brazoria County mayors and state leaders about recovery efforts in the area.
Millions of people were under tornado watches in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas on Saturday. The alert extends to Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties and may push further east as the threat approaches.
