Possible tornado rips off roofs of mobile home parks during Socal storm

A mobile home park in Oxnard was hit by an extreme wind incident that meteorologists described as “a possible weak tornado” that ripped the roof off Thursday afternoon and ripped the power cables into the roof on Thursday afternoon. Down.
The damage occurred when numerous Ventura and Los Angeles counties were flooded with mountain flooding and warned severe thunderstorms in a powerful atmospheric river storm.
According to the National Weather Service, Oxnard’s Marine Motor House estate was hit shortly after a terrible 60 mph wind gust. About 12 properties were damaged, carports, awnings and power cords were damaged.
Located on 2250 Butler Road near Oxnard Boulevard and Pleasant Valley Road, the park provides families and seniors with a valuable source of affordable housing.
According to a Ventura County star, the park has not reported any injuries, but the area has no electricity at around 6 p.m.
Meteorologist Carol Smith said the Bureau of Meteorology aims to assess Friday’s losses and determine if the park does have weak tornadoes.
She said this could be based on weather patterns on the radar and the fact that the roof is deprived of buildings, which usually does not happen just by strong winds.
“Sometimes you are really strong [wind] Rising, with strong thunderstorms or a series of storms you can get this [wind] Rotate. ” she said, describing how the tornado might have formed.
The Weather Service warned of a possible tornado during a severe thunderstorm warning to Los Angeles County Thursday afternoon.
Mobile home parks have been hit hard during the extreme weather events Southern California has experienced this year.
More than 300 mobile homes were destroyed in January’s Palisades fires that wiped out a rare affordable home on the beach in the Pacific Palisades.
Many former residents of Palisades Bowl Mobile Estate and Tahiti Terrace Mobile Home Park are now working to find housing within budget.
