Captain Igor Kshnyakin and co-pilot Alexander Kalyaninov were both Russians with Azerbaijani nationality, as well as flight attendant Hokuma Hokuma Aliyeva rests in peace in Baku.
They were fully honored earlier on Sunday at a commemorative event in the Alley of Honor in central Baku, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban.
The pilots were praised in Azerbaijan for landing in a manner that allowed 29 people to survive but led to their own deaths.
The Embraer EMBR3.SA airliner flew from Azerbaijan’s capital Baku to Grozny in Russia’s southern Chechnya region before flying hundreds of miles across the Caspian Sea.
The Alley of Honor is the holiest modern cemetery in Azerbaijan, where outstanding politicians, poets and scientists are buried.
