On Saturday, doctors said Pope Francis had removed part of a lung when he was young and was in critical condition during a long-term asthma respiratory crisis while receiving treatment for pneumonia and complex lung infections.
The Pope received a “high flow” of oxygen to help him breathe through the nasal tube. The Vatican said in its late update that he also received a blood transfusion after tests showed a low platelet count.

Saturday’s statement also said the pope “continues to be alert and spend the day in the armchair, albeit more uncomfortable than yesterday.” The doctor said the prognosis was “reserved”, given his age, vulnerability and pre-existing Pulmonary disease, the Pope’s condition is touch and behavior. His condition has recovered from speculation about what might happen if he becomes unconscious or incapacitated, and if he will quit.
