  • Police are investigating a 17-year-old man boarding a shotgun plane in Australia.

  • Passengers told the local radio station that he was dressed like an airport worker.

  • The teenager was detained by crew members and passengers.

Australian police said a 17-year-old shotgun boarded the flight after violating the airport’s safety.

The incident occurred on Thursday at Avalon Airport near Melbourne, which is operated by Qantas Ended Budget Carrier Jetstar, a low-cost airline owned by Qantas Ended Budget Carrier Jetstar.

Victoria police said the teenager was detained by crew members and passengers during the flight. Officials also found two bags and a vehicle belonging to the suspect.

Images obtained by ABC News Australia show him wearing a high-definition coat similar to the airport ground crew and being secured in the cabin.

The broadcaster reported that Sheriff Michael Reid said the teenager was acting alone and entered the airport through a hole in the security fence.

Reid said the teenager then boarded the plane but boarded several passengers.

Passenger Barry Clark on the flight told ABC Melbourne Radio that he noticed the 17-year-old was questioned by a flight attendant.

“He was dressed as a worker, and he was furious, and before we knew, there was a gun – the shotgun appeared – I was worried about a shot, so all I could do was block the gun, throw it down the stairs, and throw him on the stairs, and throw him on the ground,” Clark said.

When asked what he thought when he addressed the young man, Clark said: “You don’t think, you act.”

Reed also told reporters: “There is no doubt that it will be a very terrible event for the passengers of that plane and Victoria Police, which does praise the heroism of the passengers who can overwhelm males.”

A Jetstar representative told business insiders the airline is working with police and airport authorities to investigate the incident.

“The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority and we can confirm that there are no reported injuries,” they said.

“We know it will be a very distressing situation and we express our gratitude to our clients who assisted with the safety management situation for our crew.”
