Poconos could see up to 10 inches of snow

A winter storm watch is in effect Sunday for much of eastern Pennsylvania, including the Poconos.

The National Weather Service said in an alert Friday afternoon that 6 to 10 inches of snow could fall in Carbon and Monroe counties. The NWS says 5 to 9 inches is possible for Pike and Wayne counties.

Earlier Friday, the National Weather Service was more uncertain about the forecast. In the afternoon, the National Weather Service raised its forecast totals for the Poconos due to better guidance on an incoming low-pressure area.

The NWS said during forecast discussions Friday afternoon that 5 to 8 inches of rain is expected across the winter storm watch area, with up to 10 inches possible “especially in higher areas.”

Elsewhere in Pennsylvania, wind chills are expected to drop to 25 below 0 Sunday night into Wednesday morning.
