Packers beat Saints in dominant victory to clinch playoff spot

Green Bay Packers fans could have been wrapping Christmas gifts for their loved ones as the Packers defeated the New Orleans Saints 34-0 on Monday night.

The Saints defense had no answer for Packers running back Josh Jacobs, and they remained scoreless as they edged closer to the red zone on every drive. Those struggles added up to a late-season loss in a season that was already over.

The Packers looked good early and were often able to clinch a playoff spot.

Jacobs’ charge gave Green Bay the lead on its first possession. It ended with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. Then Jacobs scored a touchdown on the team’s second possession.

Before you knew it, Green Bay was leading 21-0 and the halftime buzzer sounded. Aside from two second-half field goals, the Packers had everything they needed to win the game and improve their record to 11-4.

Love went 16-for-28 passing for 182 yards and a touchdown.

Jacobs, Emmanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks all rushed for touchdowns. Jacobs led everyone with 68 yards rushing. Jayden Reed had three catches for 76 yards. Weeks had three catches for 13 yards.

Green Bay has one win more than the Washington Commanders and would be the sixth seed in the playoffs if the regular season ended Monday night. The Packers clinched a playoff spot.

The Saints have gone through a coaching change and serious injuries to most of their key players. If they’re lucky, they might end up playing the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.
