Michigan’s dusty possibilities reveal his first year coaching at the Big Ten High School

After spending six seasons with the Florida Atlantic, dusty May was hired as Michigan men’s basketball coach last offseason.
In May 1948, he was asked what he learned in his first season when he recently appeared on Outkick’s “Me @ Me @ Me with Dan Dakich.”
“It’s more than we expected than we expected. Every summer, whenever one of our players complained about fouls, our reaction was, ‘We played in the Big Ten, you have to play through it,'” May said.

The Michigan State coach said the coaching staff was not prepared enough for the players.
May said: “I don’t think we are creating a physical environment every day without enough intentions. Nothing we do is to do with the mat – no freedom of movement. As long as we always give our body to it, we are not fully prepared.”
Although May lamented for the team’s preparation, he noted that they were not built for playing physics games.

He explained: “But, we’re not that. We have a lot of very skilled people and they’re naturally refined. It doesn’t seem like we recruited it or we’re just trying to get the best players in a small window.”
The Michigan Wolverines are 22-9 this season, making it to the Big Ten Championships and are happy with the team’s foundation in their first year.
“We laid a very solid foundation, we learned a lot, I learned an incredible amount, but these are the things that really jumped out.”
