A police officer was reportedly killed in a shooting in Newark, New Jersey on Friday night, and another officer was injured.
The shooting happened after 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Carterret Street and Broadway.
According to New York State affiliated with Fox 5, New York State, both officers were taken to a university hospital where they were pronounced dead.
A suspect was shot and found a pistol, the report said.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote in an article about X that he updated on this incident.
“This is a fast-growing situation,” he wrote. “Pray for these officers, their families, and all of our men and women in uniforms who put their lives in a state of life to ensure our safety.”
His team confirmed Murphy and his wife Tammy visited Newark University Hospital privately.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said his office is closely monitoring the shooting.
