Olivia Munn, 33, journalist undergoes mastectomy to save her life

“Let me tell you a story about the show Olivia Munn and I worked on, Internal versionplayed a role in saving my life,” Hall, 33, wrote in the touching caption of the post. “Last spring, after @oliviamunn shared her story about her breast cancer journey, producers at @insideedition assigned me to cover the story and sent me to a breast cancer doctor in New York City to be examined on camera. According to Hall, her risk “proved to be high,” so “the wonderful doctors” at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City “encouraged me to start a schedule of annual mammograms and MRIs.”

“I had been ready to do this for a long time, but I had no idea how quickly this story would change my life,” she continued. “I had my first breast MRI in October, and a week later, just before I turned 33, I became one of millions of women to hear the words ‘You have breast cancer.'”

Hall explained that doctors also told her that her cancer was at “stage zero,” meaning it had “not spread yet.”

“I have an early-stage malignant tumor called ductal carcinoma in situ,” she added. DCIS, or ductal carcinoma in situ, is a “non-invasive breast cancer that develops in the milk ducts of the breast,” according to Johns Hopkins University.

“As you can imagine, I’ve been on a rollercoaster of fear, anxiety, fear, and gratitude,” she continued in her post on Wednesday. “My husband reminded me that this was the ‘best bad news’ we could have gotten. For a number of reasons, including my family history of breast cancer and my own history of breast abnormalities, I decided not only to tackle my current cancer head-on, Also to drastically reduce my future risk of breast cancer I have chosen to have a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery next week.

Munn, 44, revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2024.

“Surprisingly, I only cried twice,” Moon wrote in a lengthy Instagram post detailing her diagnosis and subsequent treatment, which also included a double mastectomy. “I guess I haven’t felt like I have time to cry yet. I’m focused and I’m putting aside any emotions that I think would interfere with my ability to keep my head above water,” she wrote at the time.

Hall said in an Instagram post on Wednesday that she considered “this experience a gift,” adding that her diagnosis allowed her to “do this for my future self, for my future children.”

“I have the best family, friends, dogs, therapists, doctors and colleagues in the world who have provided me with more love than I could ever have imagined,” she added. “I believe in the power of storytelling.
