Notre Dame asks fans to ‘join us in prayer’ after apparent terrorist attack before Sugar Bowl game

University Notre Dame de Paris New Orleans fans are being asked to “join us in prayer” ahead of the Sugar Bowl after an apparent terrorist attack early Wednesday morning left at least 10 people dead and more than 30 injured.
The announcement, shared on social media, comes as thousands of college football fans travel to the city to watch the Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred this morning in New Orleans and are working with law enforcement and others to determine the full scope and impact of this tragedy,” a statement posted on X said.

“We ask our fans to join us in praying for those injured and missing in this senseless act of violence.”
The university urged people in New Orleans to avoid the surrounding area. It also encourages anyone interested to attend the university’s Mass at the New Orleans Hilton Riverfront.
The FBI is investigating a suspected terrorist act after a driver plowed into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 10 people and injuring at least 35 others. Police said the suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement.

The tragedy sparked safety concerns ahead of the disaster sugar bowl, The event is scheduled for Wednesday night at the Caesars Superdome, just a mile from the crime scene.
“The Sugar Bowl Committee is devastated by the horrific events that occurred early this morning,” Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We are working with local, state and local officials to “We are in ongoing discussions with authorities at all federal levels and will provide additional details as they become available.”

New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said at a news conference Wednesday that the game will continue as expected.
