SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last week held a key policy-setting meeting of the country’s ruling party ahead of the New Year, state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Sunday.
According to reports, for the sake of national security and national interests, the party meeting announced the “strongest” response strategy to the United States, but did not provide any details.

The KCNA report added that the trilateral alliance between South Korea, the United States and Japan has expanded into a “nuclear military bloc” and South Korea has become an “anti-communist outpost” of the United States.
“Reality makes clear which direction we should go, what we should do and how we should do it,” the report said.
According to reports, the meeting, held from December 23 to 27, also reviewed the handling of floods earlier this year, including plans to transport affected people to the capital Pyongyang.
The reclusive country also vowed to promote relations with “friendly” countries during the meeting.
Meetings of party and government officials typically last several days and have been used in recent years to announce major policies.
The year ended with the 11th Plenary Session of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a summit with Kim Jong Un and signed an agreement that included mutual defense commitments.
Washington and Seoul have criticized the two countries’ military cooperation, including what they say is sending North Korean troops to fight for Russia in its war in Ukraine.
Previously, state media had released Kim Jong-un’s New Year’s Day speech.
