A civilian plane that violated the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) near the estate of President Donald Trump was reconnaissed and “accompanied” by military officials on Sunday.

North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said in a statement released Sunday that its F-16 fighter jets responded to the “general aviation aircraft” flying on Palm Beach, Florida.

Norad, a U.S.-Canada military alliance, said civilian aircraft “violated TFR at about 1:15 p.m. Eastern Time.”

“The plane is [then] Norard said.

The press release also noted that at the time, the Norad Aircraft had a “distribution flare” that might be visible to civilians.

“The flares are used to attract attention or communication with the pilot,” the statement noted. “The flares are subject to the highest respect for safety, burned quickly and completely, and are not dangerous to people on the ground.”

NORAD Commander General Gregory Guillot said the agency “works closely with the FAA” to “keep the US skies safe and keep a close eye on areas with temporary flight restrictions (TFRs).

“Compliance with TFR procedures is crucial to ensure flight safety, national security and presidential safety,” Guillot added. “These procedures are not optional, and the number of recent TFR violations is too high, indicating that many civilian pilots fail to read notifications before each flight as required by the FAA and have caused the Norad Fighter aircraft to respond multiple times to guide the TFR’s harmful aircraft.”

“If the pilot of the aircraft happens to find himself intercepted by a soldier or helicopter, they should immediately appear at a frequency of 121.5 or 243.0 and turn around to reverse the route until they receive additional instructions on one of the frequencies.”
