NFL Trade: 49 people call Deebo Samuel to Commander: Report

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly reached a deal for the first major trade in the NFL offseason. According to ESPN, All-Pro Deebo Samuel will travel eastward in 2025 and play for the Washington Commander.

According to the report, the 49ers are expected to receive a fifth-round pick in exchange for Star Wide receivers. Earlier this week, on an NFL reconnaissance combine harvester, 49ERS general manager John Lynch confirmed the report that Samuel asked for a deal. Lynch said the team plans to “remembrance” the request.

“He was asked for a fresh start, and I think we will respect that,” Lynch said Wednesday.

Samuel selected the first six seasons of his NFL career in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

After finishing his career-high 1,405 yards in the 2021 season, he received first-team global honors and a Pro Bowl selection. Samuel and Niners extended their contract for three years after the outstanding season.

Samuel missed two games last season, but he experienced a significant production decline in games on the football field. When San Francisco stumbled 6-11, he finished the year with 670 catch yards and 136 rushing yards.

Samuel talked to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan about the offseason, exiting the team and later spoke with Lynch.

“Then he came and talked to me and we had a very honest and candid conversation,” Lynch said. “He told us why. I asked him to sit on it and sleep, and we did the same. We did the same, and we told him he could go and talk to people.”

Just like any other deal you agree to now, until March 12th begins the new league year. As part of the deal, Washington is paying Samuel’s remaining contract and paying all $17.55 million in the 2025 season, a source told Schefter.
