New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams runs for mayor

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reportedly faces a new Democratic challenger who succeeds Eric Adams as mayor of New York City.

Adrienne Adams, 64, will officially launch her campaign over the weekend, according to FOX 5 NYC.

In just four months of the Democratic primary, Adams is expected to petition immediately to ensure the vote is obtained.

In a statement to the media, Adams said New Yorkers were unable to live in the city, and that city hall was “in chaos” and claimed that President Donald Trump was “destroying the independence of our city.”

Adams is the latest high-profile figure who puts his hat on the ring and challenged former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to replace embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

After Cuomo resigned in 2021, a report from the state attorney general concluded that he had sexually harassed nearly a dozen women.
