New Ukrainian General causes “unsustainable losses” to Russia

According to the Battlefield News, Ukrainian army found some rare successes on the Eastern Front, reclaimed key positions and caused “unsustainable losses” to Russian troops.

According to new reports, although no significant changes have occurred in the front line axis, Ukrainian troops have advanced against Russian troops near the major eastern cities of Pokrovsk and Toledsk.

A war blogger looked closely at the frontline, “The Ukrainian armed forces are making positive progress and regaining a key position. ” “There are reports that the Russian occupiers are completely surrounded in multiple areas.”

Toretsk provides a vital link to Ukraine’s logistics foundation with Kostiantynivka in the northwest of the city. The attacks were reportedly carried out with American sanitary armored vehicles.

The counterattack is also being carried out near Pokrovsk, an important city for Ukraine’s defense. Russia has been heading towards the city for the past year, and has traveled 40 kilometers (25 miles) west since February 2024.

Last week, Ukraine announced a successful counterattack to re-attack the Kotran settlement near Pokrovsk. “So far, the year-long Russian efforts to seize Bokrovsk have failed,” said the Institute of War (ISW).

Meanwhile, Russian military bloggers (often called the source of information instead of the Kremlin’s official commentary source) reported that Kremlin troops lost their bottom tier in Uspenivka, Donetsk.

ISW also said on Saturday that Ukrainian forces are now causing “unsustainable losses” to Russian forces and giving them “marginal benefits.”

Ukrainian war tracking blog Deepstate also said Russian troops occupied 192 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in February, a decline from previous months.

“Although the momentum is lost, the enemy continues to suffer heavy human losses as the pace of progress is comparable to last July.” “Although the enemy’s activities have not stopped completely.”

General Myhailo Drapatyi, head of the Ukrainian ground forces, praised the counterattack, who also recently commanded the battle in the eastern Donbas region.

The 42-year-old commander is considered part of a “new generation” of young Ukrainian prime ministers who have fought against Russian troops since 2014.

Olena Mokrenchuk, the press officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said before that Drapatyi Gen’s strategy was “always unexpected and unconventional, but meticulously calculated”.

“He is very effective. I believe that under his command, we will be able to push the Russians back,” she told Ukrainian broadcaster Espreso TV.

In December 2024, Drapatyi Gen announced an ambitious transformation plan aimed at improving Ukraine’s position on the battlefield, including reforming training and providing Ukrainian soldiers with a technical advantage over their enemies.

General Drapatyi said: “Today, we are building an army of the future – an army that will defeat the enemy and overcome obstacles to the way of transformation.”

However, Moscow is still gaining ground. On Saturday, it said it occupied two villages in eastern Ukraine in the southern part of the eastern Donetsk region.

DeepState also reported that in the past few days, Russia has developed near Burlatske, Andriivka, Pryvilne, Sverdlikove and Mykolaivo-Daryne. Russia strikes on Sunday against natural gas processing facilities used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ general staff said in an operation update on Friday that the military was involved in “60 combat activities”.

The fierce battle comes as senior U.S. officials warn that Donald Trump may cut all aid to Ukraine, including any final aid cargo approved by former U.S. President Joe Biden.

ISW wrote that Ukraine’s recent gains and its military have caused “unsustainable losses” to Russia, saying: “This situation, coupled with the severe challenges Russia will face in 2025, provides a huge peace negotiation for the United States.”

Ukrainian forces use U.S.-provided military systems, including Patriot Air Defense, HIMARS and ATACMS long-range strike systems, to defend against Russian drone and missile strikes at night and improve their strike capabilities.
