Netflix’s big-budget sci-fi sequel improves on the first film in every way

Science fiction as a movie genre often gives people the feeling of being from a different universe. After all, films with the most money often end up being disappointing flops, while films with much smaller budgets often end up becoming cinematic classics. Because of this, we’re delighted to see that one of the best big-budget sci-fi movies ever made is now available on streaming. If you’re ready to experience a sequel that improves on the first film in every way (or you just want to learn how to ride a giant sandworm), it’s time to start watching Dune: Part 2 on Netflix.

Courtesy of visionary director Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part 2 Netflix viewers will likely appreciate this movie because, if for no other reason, it has more action and less complex world-building than the previous film. This sequel continues the story of Paul Atreides and his mother, who live with the local Fremen after their family is brutally murdered by the Harkonnens. Paul is learning to be the prophesied savior in the eyes of the Fremen, but it soon becomes clear that he may end up bringing destruction rather than salvation to the entire galaxy.

New to the series cast include fan-favorites such as Austin Butler (as the Baron’s vicious nephew), Christopher Walken (as the Emperor) and Florence Pugh (the Emperor’s eldest daughter).

Given its huge box office returns and dazzling critical reviews, I doubt I have to give sci-fi fans That Streaming is a hard sell Dune: Part 2 on Netflix. I will say this, though: I’m one of the few geeks in my own circle of literary friends who hadn’t read the original Dune novel before diving into this movie, and I was surprised to find that the movie was so Easily accepted by the audience. If you’re worried you won’t be able to keep up, the film deftly intersperses world-building with plot and characterization. Basically, each scene adds to your knowledge of this universe without ever feeling boring or rote.

Now, you will find Dune: Part 2 As surprisingly epic and mesmerizing as I am, or is this a movie you’d rather feed to giant worms? You won’t know until you live stream it yourself. If you do see the famous Sandworm (he’s probably a little shy), tell him that his weird porn bucket of popcorn and subsequent memes could be the highlight of 2024 for nerdy moviegoers everywhere.
