Netflix NFL game shows Super Bowl contenders, MVP frontrunners: Benzinga poll says 27% of viewers have watched

streaming giant Netflix NFLX first broadcast National Football League There are two games on Christmas Day, featuring four of the league’s top teams.

Here’s what happened, plus a poll that suggests the holidays could hurt ratings.

What happened: Netflix spent an estimated $150 million to purchase the rights to two NFL games for Christmas 2024. Strong ad demand could help the streaming giant recoup costs and turn the events into free marketing.

The big question is how many viewers tune in to NFL games, since they are exclusive to Netflix and are paired with NBA games, which are traditionally a Christmas staple. Family gatherings and events are also likely to be the most watched events of Christmas, leaving investors and analysts eagerly awaiting official viewing figures.

Using Benzinga’s own polling methodology, the data doesn’t suggest that viewership for NFL games will be as strong as some expected.

“Have you watched Netflix’s Football?” Benzinga asked on his morning YouTube show, “Benzinga’s Market Edge Live.”

The show’s YouTube viewership results are as follows:

Benzinga also recently polled readers, asking if they would watch the game before the Christmas game.

“Will you be watching the Christmas NFL games on Netflix?” Benzinga asked.

The result is as follows:

  • Yes, I already have Netflix: 39%
  • No, I don’t have Netflix and won’t watch it: 30%
  • No, even if I have Netflix: 30%
  • Yes, I plan to subscribe to Netflix Watch: 1%

The largest proportion of readers said they were subscribers and would watch, receiving 39% of the vote. 30% of Netflix subscribers said that although they could watch games for free with their subscription, they would not watch them. 30% said they don’t have Netflix and wouldn’t subscribe just to watch NFL games.

The survey found that a total of 60% of readers do not plan to watch NFL games on Christmas.
