Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday accused Hamas of violating parts of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release agreement as he faced resistance to the deal from ultra-nationalist allies.
On Wednesday evening, mediators announced that Hamas and Israel had reached agreement on a deal that would halt the 15-month-old war in Gaza and release the 98 hostages still being held.
But Netanyahu’s government, relying on the support of two far-right parties vehemently opposed to any deal, insisted final details still had to be worked out and claimed on Thursday morning that Hamas was changing its mind.
“Israel will not set dates for cabinet and government meetings [to approve the deal] Until the mediator announces that Hamas has approved all details of the agreement,” Netanyahu’s office said.
Hamas did not immediately respond.
