Phillip Schofield says marriage is ‘a work in progress’ after coming out as gay

Phillip Schofield has said that his marriage to wife Steph is a "work in progress" and they're "picking their way" forward after the star came out as gay.

The 58-year-old This Morning presenter came out as gay earlier this year by revealing the news via his official Instagram account and then minutes later appearing on the ITV daytime show with his co-host Holly Willoughby.

Phillip broke down into Holly's arms as he spoke of his story and admitted that he is into men romantically but will remain married to his wife Steph and had "nothing but" support from his family including his two daughters.

And now the TV veteran they are just trying to "pick our way through" as a family.

During an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live, Phillip was asked how his relationship with his beloved wife is.

Phillip replied: "We love each other massively.

"We are a loving family, that hasn't changed… it's us four but different.

"We are a work in progress. I've been very honest about all of this and there's no question, we have to pick our way through this daily as a family."

He continued: "And that's what we are doing. We are making our way through very unusual and unexpected waters."

The star previously said keeping his sexuality a secret tore him apart.

When asked how he is doing now, Phil replied: "I am ok, I am still a work in progress.

"I still have to come to terms with my life and with me."

He also went on to admit that going into lockdown a couple of weeks after coming out didn't help.

Phillip said: "It hasn't helped that what I wanted most of all was what I wanted was to see my mates and have a drink and go out for a meal and have a hug…

"As I came out the world went in. Talk about the worst possible timing. There are lots of things I miss.

"I miss going out and seeing my mates and having a pint and saying how are you doing."
