New film trailer leaves viewers shaking as one brands movie the scariest

Social media users have shared their reactions after viewing the trailer for the upcoming Hollywood horror movie, Smile.

Created by the blockbuster production house Paramount Pictures, Smile is a spooky film about a woman who experiences freakish events after a terrifying accident.

It follows a doctor named Rose Cotter, whose life takes a horrific turn as she must confront her past to deal with all the strangeness around her as she’s haunted by an abnormal figure constantly smiling at her.

The thriller’s two-minute trailer has received quite a stir on social media, with fans raising how “alarming” and “troubled” the film looks.

One terrified user penned to Twitter: “I just threw my phone across the room. WHAT WAS THAT.”

A second shared: “Nothing creepier than ppl smiling for no reason", while a third added: “I’m sorry this film looks like it's the scariest. That trailer alone has just scared the daylights out of me.”

A fourth person tweeted: “Ok, ngl 99% of movies don’t leave me scared, but this might take the cake sheesh, dawg.”

One standout moment from the trailer which had given goosebumps to those watching, was during a scene when a woman contorts her elongated neck upside down and stares into a car window.

As viewers reacted to the freaky moment, one user said: “No, because the very first time I saw that neck swing, I was ready to vacate.”

Another user wrote: “WHEN THE NEck sWUNG DOWN…NO.”

The film will mark Parker Finn's debut as director and will see Sosie Bacon (13 Reasons Why) in the lead role of Dr Rose Cotter, with the likes of Jessie Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) in a support role.

Smile's release date is September 30.
