When Michael Jackson was releasing new music in the 1980s he was at the top of his game. The American star broke huge records while grabbing number one hits and albums along the way. One of his most impressive records was achieving five number-one singles in ten months. This record, however, may be broken soon.

Korean band BTS recently released their hit single Permission to Dance and claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Permission to Dance marks the band’s fifth number one on the Hot 100 in ten and a half months.

The track follows Dynamite, which first placed number one in September of last year.

This song was then followed by Life Goes On, Savage Love and then Butter.

What do you think? Will BTS take over Michael Jackson’s record?

The last time this milestone was hit was back in 1988 by Michael.

The American singer released a string of hits after the arrival of his seventh album, Bad.

He released the album in 1987 and subsequently released seven singles from it, five of which launched straight to number one on the Hot 100.

He started with I Just Can’t Stop Loving You, a duet with his vocal partner Siedah Garrett that he released on July 20, 1987.

Michael followed this ballad up with the album’s title track Bad, a song that sold millions and went multi-platinum.

The King of Pop continued his success by releasing The Way You Make Me Feel in November 1987.

He continued with his politically charged song Man in the Mirror.

The fifth and final number one hit was Dirty Diana – a song he denied was about Diana, Princess of Wales.

Michael lost his momentum with his next single, Another Part of Me, which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

BTS has not yet faltered with their hit singles and therefore threaten Michael’s staggering record.

The Korean band are extremely popular, having currently sold more than 10 million albums in less than five and a half years.

This is a milestone in itself, setting the record for reaching the 10 million milestone in the shortest space of time.

BTS’ seven members have not yet announced what their next single will be, but all eyes will be on whether it reaches number one for the sixth time, as this would break the record.

In the meantime, the band were recently named the “special presidential envoy for future generations and culture” by South Korea.

In this position, the Bangtan Boys will attend “major international meetings” as representatives of their country.
