Katie Hopkins show cancelled as fuming locals slam her over hate speech

Katie Hopkins has seen a tour date cancelled after fuming locals started a petition to have it axed due to her previous hate speech.

The former Celebrity Big Brother star had been scheduled to stop off in Bedford for her 2023 tour, but the council cancelled it just a day later after backlash.

The 47-year-old was due to speak at Bedford Corn Exchange next year but a petition was launched against it, citing her "Islamophobic, homophobic speeches and rants".

The petition organisers went on: "She does not belong in our proudly multi-racial, diverse town. Inviting her to perform here is an insult to a vast swathe of our population.

"Bedford Corn Exchange should be asked to drop her from the bill, to send a strong message about the values we in Bedford hold dear."

Bedford Borough Council said in a statement: "We are proud to have a diverse community in Bedford Borough and want to support people to help one another to thrive.

"We do not feel the show in question supports this objective. As a result, we have made the decision to cancel the event at Bedford Corn Exchange."

Katie has seen her public persona dwindle in recent years due to major backlash and the fact she was permanently banned from Twitter in 2020.

The former Apprentice star's account, which has one million followers, was removed from the platform.

While still on Twitter, Katie was often seen retweeting Donald Trump and slamming Marcus Rashford during his campaign to get free school meals for disadvantaged children during school holidays.

She also told rapper Stormzy to "quit crying racism" after he said in an interview that Britain was "definitely 100% racist".

The hated personality said: "Quit crying racism. Start shouting about the young black lads stabbed by other young black lads in London.

"This is utter cowardice from you. So much easier to make All White People the problem."

Controversy follows Katie wherever she goes, as she was also barred from the Australian version of Big Brother last year after she bragged online about breaking Covid rules.
