Demi Lovato’s New Music Video For Dancing With The Devil Is Causing Quite A Stir

Demi Lovato continued opening up about her near-fatal overdose via a new music video that relived the 2018 incident. Before the video’s release, the pop star addressed all the speculation surrounding the shocking ordeal in her four-part docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil. The film features grim testimonials about the overdose and its aftermath, per The Hollywood Reporter. The series was the first time fans got an inside look and breakdown of the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer’s addiction, overdose, and journey to sobriety.

But, as if that wasn’t transparent enough, Lovato put the incident further into perspective with her “Dancing With The Devil” music video, as Entertainment Weekly first reported. In the song’s visuals, Lovato relives the overdose moment-by-moment, from partying it up at the club to ending the night in a hospital bed. Everything from the clothes she wore to the style of her hair and makeup got replicated to take viewers inside the singer’s near-death experience. The “Heart Attack” singer directed the video, along with Michael D. Ratner. He is the man behind OBB Media, who helmed her revealing documentary.

With such a young fanbase, Lovato felt it was important to remain transparent about her drug use and recovery. “Sometimes being descriptive can be triggering, but that’s the sad, sad truth of how dark it can get. That’s important to give people, too,” Lovato told EW. So how have fans reacted to the video? As it turns out, they have a lot to say.

Demi Lovato's fans appreciate her raw honesty

Demi Lovato’s “Dancing With The Devil” music video starts with a shot of the singer lying in a hospital gurney. Clips from the visual showed highlights from the wild night that led her there. The singer downed shots of alcohol and partied the night away before ultimately ended up nearly dying from a drug overdose. While screaming in her hospital bed, hospital staff check her pupils and see whether she’s still breathing. She also receives a visit from her mom, Dianna De La Garza, and two sisters, Madison De La Garza and Dallas Lovato. By the vid’s end, Demi appears renewed, showing off a “survivor” tattoo on her neck.

Of course, the video caused quite the stir for its honest approach. “She’s so committed to being open and vulnerable and I love her for it. Literally recreated the whole story to the duffle bag to the people that looked like her family and the outfits and set,” someone said. “Truly amazing what she’s doing to speak out like this.” Another person wrote, “Demi’s a survivor! She isn’t afraid of facing her past. In fact she made this video to let everyone know you can overcome anything! Even drug addiction!! Thank you Demi!” Someone else gushed, “We’re so proud of you.”

With the four-part docuseries and her album Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over, Lovato continued her brand of being transparent and candid about her personal struggles. It’s not every day when an international pop star relives their drug abuse in a music video, so it’s understandable why it has moved so many fans.
