The FAA is investigating after a plane approached the Los Angeles International Airport runway and another took off

An investigation is underway after a private plane carrying a college basketball team was ordered to stop as it approached the runway at Los Angeles International Airport where another plane was taking off.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, air traffic controllers directed a charter flight that had just arrived from Spokane, Washington, to stay on the runway where the second plane was about to take off.
The FAA said in a statement that air traffic controllers told the pilot to stop when the Embraer E135 jet operated by Colorado-based Key Lime Airways “began to cross the holding barrier.”
“Stop, stop, stop,” a controller can be heard saying on live video capturing the incident.
Plane spotter Kevin Ray, who created the YouTube channel that posted the footage, can be heard exclaiming in surprise.
“Wow! In all my years of doing this, I’ve never heard an air traffic controller tell an airplane, ‘Stop, stop, stop,'” he says in the video.
“The aircraft never crossed the runway edge,” the FAA said.
Federal agencies said they would investigate the incident.
Key Lime Flight 563 carries the Gonzaga University men’s basketball team, which will face UCLA the next day.
Gonzaga University said in a statement that it “expects to receive additional information related to this incident and is grateful that the incident ended safely.”
The departing Delta Air Lines flight, scheduled for Atlanta, did not appear to be affected.
Delta spokesperson Erica Hutlas said Delta Flight 471 was “operating normally.”
Key Lime Air did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is in the midst of a busy holiday season. Between December 19 and January 2, the airport is expected to handle more than 3.2 million passengers.
