Michelle Trachtenberg, a touchstone for millennial youth culture, grew up on screen, became famous in the 1990s supernatural 1990s series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and was found dead in Manhathatan on Wednesday. She is 39 years old.
Officials responded to the 911 call when officials found Ms. Trachtenberg unconscious and unresponsive in a Manhattan apartment after 8 a.m. Wednesday. She was pronounced dead by emergency medical staff, and they responded.
The department said the medical examiner would determine the cause of death, but added that the crime was not suspected.
Ms. Trachtenberg established her long-term presence on a small screen at the age of 3, when she appeared in a TV commercial to sprinkle Wisk Laundry detergent with cranberry juice.
Before she was 10, she made regular appearances on the Nickelodeon sitcom “Pete & Pete’s Adventure” and appeared on the enduring ABC daytime drama “All My Kids.”
Her breakthrough was 11 points, when she made her debut in Louise Fitzhugh’s 1964 children’s book “Harriet The Spy” (1996), with the theme character “Harriet The Spy” (1996), and the film’s adaptation also features Rosie O’Donnell as Harriet’s nanny Ole Golly. She was praised for her performance Harriet Welsch, a precocious girl who laughed at her imagined spy adventures, who carefully chronicles her notebook.
Stephen Holden, who reviewed the film in the New York Times, wrote that Ms. Trachburg “gives a lovely show like a lovely one without self-awareness,” she added: “Her Harriet is highly flexible and stubborn, but absolutely impossible.”
In 2000, she discovered a new fame as a teenager when she joined the cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in her fifth season, the sister of Buffy Summers, the mysterious assistant of Sarah Michelle Gellar, a longtime friend who knew the days of Ms. Albert.
Her character plagued the anxiety of adolescence and the turn of kleptomania, inspiring some fans to fight back. “I still receive ‘Oh my goodness! I think Dawn is so annoying!'” she said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2017. She added that she has a lot of ‘oh, she’s so complaining! “Hey, are you a teenager? Oh, you’re gentle, sitting in the corner, eyes, happy to be there? No. This is why teenagers are stigmatized.”

Growing up near Sheephead Bay in Brooklyn, her parents encouraged her to pursue her early screen dreams. Her career began with a series of TV commercials she had when she was a kid, which eventually led to a more fleshy role. Her family moved to Los Angeles, where she attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks and was within amazing range of Hollywood.
After “Buffy”, Ms. Trachtenberg grew up beyond the child star and began to find herself in films like Eurotrip, such as the 2004 “Teenage Come” film. “There was a scene on a naked beach, at the bottom of one of my people, and things started to break down,” she said in an interview with the New York Daily News in 2004. “The filmmaker said, ‘Oh, we won’t use it, don’t worry.'”
“Yes, right,” she added. “Guess which shot they used?”
In an interview with Complex Magazine in 2012, she recalled a scene from the 2006 film Beautiful Ohio, starring William Hurt and Rita Wilson, including her “Naked Tush”. She said this was probably one of the most terrifying moments of my life. ”
She added: “It will take an army or Martin Scorsese to keep me naked again.”
In 2005, she performed a healthier turn when she played the Skitt-Sakite. “I trained for eight months in the movie,” she said in an interview with CBS’ “Early Performances” that year. “My favorite move was the outskirts of the eagle, I worked very hard and almost perfected it, and on the last day, it hit.”
In 2008, she joined another career-defined role, joining the cast of “Goggy Girl,” a popular CW drama about the privileged life of currency and misbehaving private school students on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, which is Georgina Sparks.

After the series ended in 2012, Ms. Trachtenberg appeared in other TV series, including “NCIS: Los Angeles” and debuted in 2015 in the TV movie “Killing Kennedy” (who played Marina Oswald, Lee Harvey Oswald’s wife), and played the family in 2015 and “Sisters” in 2013, and she debuted in 2015 in her 2013 consultant, who played a recruiting web series “Guidance” in 2013.

Despite facing pressure from stars since childhood, Ms. Trachberg told the complex that she managed to avoid the pitfalls of early fame – including drugs. “My mom is protective,” she recalled. “But she just said, ‘It’s your choice- you ruined your career or you won’t.’ If you realize how lucky you are to sit in your position, you just don’t drink alcohol and don’t do cocaine.”
