MAGAvenue: Lawmakers prepare legislation to name several Heartland highways after Trump

Multiple Missouri lawmakers are reportedly preparing legislation to name several highways after President-elect Trump in the new year.

The most sweeping bill would add Trump’s name to as-yet-undesignated lanes on Missouri’s highway system by next August, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

However, the bill, sponsored by state Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman (R-Arnold), exempts roads in St. Louis, Columbia and Kansas City counties, the newspaper reported.

Coleman previously introduced a bill to rename a portion of Interstate 55 in her district the “Donald J. Failure in the Legislature.

Under the defunct and current proposal, the Department of Transportation would erect and maintain commemorative signs, but private donations would pay for them.

Another proposal comes from St. Louis state Sen. Nick Schroer. Charles will designate a portion of MO Highway D west of St. Louis as the “President Donald J. Trump Highway.”

“It’s time to make Missouri’s roads great again,” Schroer said in announcing his bill on social media.

The post included an illustration of Trump doing his famous “YMCA” dance on the shoulder of the highway next to the “Donald J. Trump Presidential Highway” sign.

Attempts to reach Schroer and Coleman for further comment were unsuccessful.

Flashback: Trump addresses supporters in Missouri

Fox News Digital also reached out to Missouri Senate President Pro Tempore Caleb Rowden, a Columbia Republican.

Coleman said in announcing the 2021 bill that Trump “strengthened Missouri’s economy, defended our values, and made America great again during his historic first term” and therefore deserved the honor. .

Missouri lawmakers also sought to honor other national conservatives, including the late radio host Rush Limbaugh, who was born and raised in Cape Girardeau.

According to the Columbia Missourian, the final text of the 2021 designation bill did not designate January 12 as “Rush Limbaugh Day.”

Trump’s name has appeared on several highways outside the Showcase States, including some in politically unfriendly areas.

In 2019, a man “adopted” portions of Burke Lake Road and Fairfax County Rte. 620, in the deep-blue Washington, D.C., suburb of Springfield, Virginia, in Trump’s name.

The man also successfully had the incoming president’s name emblazoned on a VDOT adoption highway sign on heavily trafficked Ox Road near Lorton, The Washingtonian reported.

In 2021, Oklahoma’s Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt signed legislation carving out 20 miles of US 287 in the state’s Panhandle after Trump.

Meanwhile, Hialeah, Florida, Mayor Esteban Bovo attended Trump’s 2023 rally in suburban Miami and renamed a thoroughfare near one of the city’s casinos after Donald Trump A memorial plaque was presented to him behind J. Trump Boulevard.

In Trump’s hometown, a controversial 430-acre parkland is also named after him. Putnam Valley state park was established in 2006 after Donald J. Trump donated the land to the state of New York.

After Trump was unable to successfully develop a golf course at the site due to town permit roadblocks and other issues, he originally purchased the land in two pieces for about $2.5 million in 1998 and then transferred it to Albany.

Donald J. Trump State Park quickly fell into disrepair and remained largely unmaintained. New York Democrats have tried to pass legislation to remove Trump’s name from the park, including in 2019 proposing to rename the park after a woman killed during the 2017 Charlottesville riots.

After Trump was convicted in the hush-money trial, New York Senator Brad Holman-Segal told the New York Times that he hoped it would be a “kickstart” in reopening talks to rename the park.

Holman-Segal, a Democrat, said he has visited the park and seen “some improvements” since Trump gifted it to the Pataki administration.
