Long stretch of Laguna Beach closed after 465,000 gallons of sewage leak

The coastal waters of Laguna Beach between Treasure Island and Aliso Beach Table Rock are closed due to a sewage spill. Orange County health authorities confirm Tuesday night.
A major sewer line ruptured near Laguna Niguel Regional Park, causing an overflow of approximately 465,000 gallons of sewage, the Orange County Department of Health Care and Environmental Health Services said. Some of the sewage, the exact circumstances of which are unknown, seeped into nearby beaches.
Although the sewer damage has been repaired, activities such as swimming, surfing and diving are still closed on the area’s beaches. Orange County officials said the water will remain closed until conditions improve.

This is the second time the leak has occurred counties within months.
In December, the coastal area around Dana Point’s Salt Creek was closed after 3,375 gallons of sewage flowed into the ocean.
Broken sewer pipes are also to blame.
