There were complaints on Twitter as the app struggled to accommodate shoppers. One wrote: “I am unable to log into my groceries account, what’s going on? I can’t reset.”
Another said: “Totally fed up with the Sainsbury’s app. Delivery now arriving without amendments and I’m locked out of my account.”
Another said: “Sainsbury’s your online ordering stopped working midway through my order this evening, both the app and website would not let me check out.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We continue to prioritise vulnerable customers for our home delivery service and we have more than doubled the number of slots available to our customers since this time last year. Now we can deliver groceries to over 800,000 customers every week.”
Complaints were levied at Tesco too, with one Twitter user writing: “Tesco I’m unable to check out my order for tomorrow…app keeps freezing at the final saving changes…Help!”
Others Tweeted about the Ocado online queues.
One wrote: “I am number 5285 in the Ocado App Virtual Queue.”
Another wrote: “9000 users in a queue ahead of me on Ocado. Panic buying is back.”
“The only thing increasing more exponentially than covid cases is the queue on the Ocado website this evening.”
Ocado wrote to one tweeter: “I’m really sorry to hear you’re having trouble finding a slot. Despite increasing our capacity by 40 percent this year, slots are being snapped up quickly. We are still updating our website on a daily basis to show our availability.”
