He’s a beach bum!
“Perineum sunning” — where one exposes their bumhole to the sunlight to boost vitamin D — has taken the wellness world by storm, and the latest health enthusiast to try out the tush-toasting trend is biohacker Dave Asprey.
Asprey, the founder of Bulletproof, famous for popularizing keto coffee made with butter and Asprey’s signature “brain octane” MCT oil, posted a nude pic of himself lying on the beach with his legs in the air.
“Decided to double down by earthing [putting bare skin on the ground to reconnect with the earth] and allegedly increasing vitamin D by exposing my perineum to sunlight,” the 46-year-old wrote on Instagram Thursday.
Asprey loves trying out wacky hacks for staying young and vibrant, including shockwave therapy for stronger erections, so baring his backside for health benefits seems relatively tame for him. Still, he points out that there’s not much research supporting the benefits of “butthole sunning.”
“There are studies I’ve written about before that say getting sunlight on your testes will increase testosterone, and there are recent studies showing that UV light changes your gut bacteria. However, there are no actual studies about #buttholesunning (yet).”
The unproven trend is also apparently pretty risky: Actor Josh Brolin recently admitted to “burning his pucker-hole” while experimenting with perineum sunning.
Asprey experienced a similar sensation.
“It’s very easy to get a sunburn,” he wrote. “Feels like eating too many jalapeños.”
