My mum passed away and the only way I can cope is by getting drunk – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: LAST month my mum passed away and I’m not coping at all.

I’m drinking loads of beers and half a bottle of vodka most evenings, though I was never much of a drinker before.

I am a guy of 33 and am still living at home. Mum was a single parent.

My dad left us when I was three, so Mum and I were very close.

She was brilliant and everybody loved her.

I don’t know how I can face life without her.

She died of lung cancer. She was only 52 and didn’t smoke.

Arranging the funeral helped at first but now I am here all alone, while everyone else is moving on with their lives.

DEIDRE SAYS: I do feel for you but you know your mum would be horrified by this. Cherish the strong values she gave you.

You can find support through thegoodgrieftrust.org.

You will find stories there from others who were devastated by losing a parent.

Cut out the alcohol and look for positive ways to honour your mum’s memory.

Get fit for a charity run in her name, say.

Friends will offer you fresh understanding and support.
