DEAR DEIDRE: DURING the week, when he’s working, my husband is nice.
At the weekend he drinks and turns into a monster. He’s like Jekyll and Hyde.
He spent last Saturday guzzling vodka and rum in the garage. I found the empty bottles later.
When he came into the house, he started shouting at me about how dirty it was and how I’m a lazy, terrible wife.
He has drunkenly called me ugly and smashed my things, including a vase my late mother gave me. He isn’t even sorry.
The next day he always claims he can’t remember what happened but that I must have provoked him.
We’re 48 and have been together for 15 years. This has been going on for at least the past five. I feel so low.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are in a very toxic relationship. Despite the fact this only happens on weekends, and is down to the alcohol, your husband is abusing you.
He needs to get help with his drinking and to take responsibility for his actions.
You, meanwhile, must decide if it is safe for you to stay. Women’s Aid (womensaid.org.uk) can help you.
My support packs on Dealing With A Problem Drinker and Abusive Partner will show you where to find additional help.
