Meghan Markle weight row as fans praise ‘refreshing’ Duchess ‘embracing’ post baby body

Meghan Markle walked the red carpet at the Lion King premiere on Sunday night.

She and Prince Harry looked every inch the a-list couple.

However, a number of Twitter users were furious to see some bashing the Duchess for her post-baby body.

Meghan gave birth on 6 May, and little Archie Harrison is only two months old.

Fans of the Duchess have taken to the social media platform to defend Her Royal Highness.

One wrote: “So refreshing to see Meghan Markle embracing her post baby body and is in no rush to get her pre baby body back.

“It’s important to feel happy within yourself and your weight shouldn’t determine your happiness.”

Lambasting criticism, another wrote: “I’ve seen many tweets about her weight etc but good on Meghan for being comfortable in her own post baby body, she looks incredible. So pleased she’s enjoying herself and her family rather than worried about her body.”

“Going through the news, I noticed everyone’s been talking about #MeghanMarkle postpartum body & how she still didn’t lose the weight,” another said.

“I love how she’s not rushing to lose it & taking time to do so.. she’s enjoying her time w/ her child & embracing her body.. so SHUT UP.”

One more wrote: “I love that Meghan Markle hasn’t lost her baby weight yet, or resorted to the stupid stuff celebs do to take it off. It’s okay, Meghan! I haven’t lost my baby weight either. (Note: my daughter is 19.)”

What is a normal amount of weight to gain during pregnancy?

According to experts a woman needs to eat 300 more calories per day when pregnant to gain a healthy amount of weight while carrying a child.

WedMD suggests an average weight women should gain between 25 to 35lbs.

Does Meghan Markle diet? Since marrying Harry she has not spoken out about her health and fitness, however, before meeting the royal she wrote about her lifestyle habits regularly. 

Meghan told Delish magazine in an interview before she was linked to Prince Harry: “Green juice is a food-as-medicine philosophy for me.

“I think trying to go for coffee or things like that only end up hurting you in the end.”

In another interview with Today she repeated her love for the green drink.

“If I blend some apple, kale, spinach, lemon and ginger in my Vitamix in the morning and bring it to work, I always find that sipping on that is a much better boost than a cup of espresso… the end of the day, your body will thank you for nourishing it with so much fresh goodness.”

The Duchess is also an advocate of yoga and reportedly has a yoga studio built in Frogmore Cottage.

However, she enjoys balance and on her now closed down Instagram revealed she enjoys chips on her birthday as a yearly tradition.

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.

Her father was previously married to Roslyn Loveless and Meghan has two elder half sibling – sister Samantha Markle and brother Thomas Markle Junior.

In September 2011, she wed film producer Trevor Engelson, who she began dating in 2004.

But the pair divorced two years later in August 2013, citing irreconcilable difference.

She was in a relationship with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello for almost two years, before they broke it off in 2016 but the two remain good friends.

And in June 2016, she met Prince Harry on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.

Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.

They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Meghan’s heritage

Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.

Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.

She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
