I felt physically sick when my gay brother confessed to having feelings for me
DEAR DEIDRE: I ALWAYS knew my brother was gay but he’s confessed to having feelings for me.
I was shocked and feel physically sick he would even consider saying that.
We share a place, so have spent most of the past year together. During the lockdowns, we both worked at home and although we couldn’t see friends, we had each other. It was good cooking meals together and playing on the Xbox.
Nothing sexual has happened and of course I wouldn’t allow it to.
But now he’s expressed his feelings, it’s changed everything. I miss how we were together but now I can’t even look at him.
He’s 28 and I’m 26.

DEIDRE SAYS: You have to spell it out clearly – that you miss him as a brother but brothers are all you are ever going to be.
To progress any relationship together would be deemed incest in the eyes of the law – and you are a straight man anyway.
Encourage him to find support through LGBT, (switchboard.lgbt, 0300 330 0630), where they will be happy to talk to you too.
