If you’re trying to cut back on your caloric intake, reducing the number of snacks you eat at work might well be the best place to start.
There are certain things when it comes to our weight and losing it that have blanket figures many of us swear by. Body Mass Index is one of them. A relatively simple equation to determine whether a person is underweight, overweight, a regular weight, or obese. Truth be told, that method is extremely crude. If followed to the letter, it would determine that all bodybuilders are incredibly obese.
Our caloric intake is another thing that has blanket figures attached to it. For instance, men needing 2500 calories per day and women needing 2000. Again, those definitions can be dangerous. A person’s size and activity means those figures actually fluctuate quite a bit. Plus, not to harp on bodybuilders too much, but we can’t imagine they would be quite as impressive at their craft if they stuck to those numbers.
For the vast majority of us who aren’t bodybuilders, keeping an eye on our caloric intake isn’t a bad thing. What many people doing so don’t clock is when exactly they are consuming all their calories. They might keep their main meals healthy, but not realize how much they are consuming in between. Kallø recently reported that the number is actually pretty staggering.
Apparently, the average woman consumes an extra 100,000 calories per year through snacking alone. We’re unsure as to why they only focused on women, that’s something you’ll have to take up with Kallø. When you break the numbers down they become even more frightening. 100,000 extra calories equate to a staggering extra 50 days of eating per year.
Anyone with a job where snacks are readily available knows the struggle of not eating casually throughout the day. A fizzy drink here, a cookie there. All things that don’t seem so bad in isolation, but when added up over the course of the year it makes for some scary statistics. If you are trying to reduce your caloric intake, it might be time to bulk out your breakfast and lunch a little bit to keep you fuller throughout the day.
