Guatemalan man in U.S. illegally charged with sexually abusing Alabama child

A Guatemalan man in the United States illegally has been arrested on charges of child sex abuse, police in north Alabama said Sunday.
Luis Lopez-Martinez, 38, was arrested by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office following a 911 call reporting he was being “caught with abuse of a child under the age of 12,” the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
The victim’s family allegedly witnessed the act and detained Lopez-Martinez until law enforcement arrived, according to LCSO. He was later arrested by Limestone County Deputy Bradley Fontenot.

Lopez-Martinez was initially identified by another name, but authorities later confirmed his true identity.
The victim, identified as being less than 12 years old, was immediately transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation and care.
Lopez-Martinez was arrested after she allegedly admitted to sexually abusing the child during an interview with investigators, saying “that’s what happened,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He remains in jail on $250,000 bail.
