Soto signed a record 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets during the offseason. If Soto opt out after the fifth year of the contract, the Mets could invalidate it by making the contract worth $805 million.

The judge knew it was impossible to replace Soto, but he liked everything the Yankees did to make up for their losses.

The Yankees bought Bellinger in a deal with the Chicago Cubs and signed Goldschmidt’s one-year contract.

Goldschmidt won the NL MVP in 2022 but struggled last season as he stood out before the bounce. Last season, he hit .245 with 22 home runs in 154 games.
